Right across the street from the Alumni Center. It is so close in fact, that it is accessible via an underground tunnel (nice to have in February in Minnesota!).

(as of Jan 13: $80+tax. Parking seems to be included)

Minneapolis Hostel

It's further from the conference, but a cab will only cost you $8-10 each way or there is a metro transit bus that runs over to the university periodically (~$2 a ride).
Room Rate per night: $28 (Shared Room) - $65 (Private Room with Private Bath)

You can get a three star (University zone) for about $50 or a four star (Downtown zone) for about $70 by using Name Your Own Price through Priceline. The downside is that you aren't guaranteed a specific hotel, just a star level and Zone. For a list of recent bids check biddingfortravel.com. The Radison Metrodome (on the East bank campus), Holiday Inn Metrodome (on the West bank campus), and Sheraton (about 2 mi. from campus) have come up on Priceline, so you're guaranteed to be close.
